HL:A's implementation is abstracted just enough to not cause heart attacks. Because, holy $#*%, the surprise sensation of a VR Headcrab leaping at me, its pincers and teeth aimed at my eyeballs, then latching onto my virtual face and requiring a wave of my real-life hand to be flung off is one I thought I was prepared for. I think someone at Valve had a similar experience, and I pity them. This reminded me of the time in my real, honest-to-god life that a squirrel burrowed into my attic, then, upon being discovered, leapt at me-all four limbs and all 7,000 savage teeth (give or take a few) aimed in my direction-which I narrowly dodged as the cretin flung itself through my open window and away to freedom. Yes, one of these was a virtual Headcrab leaping directly at my face.
